I can’t believe it’s mid-August already. Seasons pass by so quickly.

In Pennsylvania, the seasons are so obvious. Your traditional colorful fall, rusty orange leaves, subdued yellows, red colored ones to match the apples. Gray sky-ed winters, dreary naked trees against a stark blanket of snow. Sunlight peaking through clouds, forming a rainbow over the snow that it’s melting, and small buds signaling the new life about to come. Finally, the sun beats down until you don’t think you can take it anymore, hot, hot, hotter, gives way to a pleasant mildness of nightfall. All is green, lush, fragrant. The nighttime sky is a canvas littered with white lights glowing in harmony with the symphony of miscellaneous insects, singing their songs of sorrow, excitement, joy.

California doesn’t have any of that. Each day passes in the same manner as each month. A monotonous blur. Perpetual spring.

Just me rambling.

Not gonna lie…I’m kind of excited about this. It’s like Forever 21, but Wal-Mart prices.

From GlamChic

Particularly the Tie Dye Tee (aka American Apparel Acid Wash ripoff) and Ruffle Blouse. I’m curious to see the quality of these pieces in person, as Wal-Mart usually looks even cheaper than it is in person…

My sister is in town so we did a little shopping on Sunday.

I’d never been to Pasadena, so I wanted to check out the shopping area on Colorado.

Deal of the Day 1:

Miss Sixty Black Jacket. $130.00 $68.00

Deal of the Day 2:

H&M Jewelry (Bracelet $5.90 $3.00, Set of 2 Pairs of Earrings $3.90 $1.00

I also picked up some new eyeshadow, Smashbox Single Eyeshadow in Shell. I wanted a light, neutral color to wear to work that I could also use at night blended with brown or black. So far it’s working out well with my complexion.

Even more exciting than my little purchases is I’m featured on CMD+Shift Design’s “Office Pets and their Creative Humans” Post! Check it out!

So let’s address the issue at hand here…I’ve been MIA. Most recently, I took a trip to the East Coast. I stopped in St Michaels, Maryland for a day and experienced one of the most wonderful things in the world, which is Maryland Crabs. We ate three dozen crabs at a table on the bay at The Crab Claw.

Then, three of my girlfriends and I drove down to Wilmington, NC for the weekend. Pretty much the most I can say is that we had a blast. Look how beautiful the water is there! I never expected it.

This is a very small detail that I think only handful of people will notice…

But I am pretty sure IKEA recently changed the way they list prices on their website. Instead of listing prices as $99.00, they are now listing as $99.

See for yourself: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/cata… (BTW I think I may buy this to use as a TV stand)

I like the old way better.

I took these pictures somewhere between Germany and Austria, in July 2007.

To say that our European Excursion went without a snag, would be a gross lie. We were six 20 and 21-year-old girls; most of us had never been overseas, especially for a month. After travel snafus, personality clashes, poor budgeting on some parts, and just generally, stress galore, we were ready to go home by the third week. We knew we would regret those feelings of homesickness. And we sure do.

There were parts of the trip where I felt so alive. These photos; these photos combined with Kings of Leon’s current single, “Fans,” just took me to an indescribable place. One thing I can put into words, is that it helped me to stop and appreciate all the beauty around me. All the excitement and adventure I was drowning out by missing my friends and family and California.

I find myself looking back on this point because I think I am similarly taking my day to day life for granted. I’ll be the first to admit I am in some ways a dreamer, always looking forward to the future, saying “I can’t wait until…” or even putting things off for the future. I often times get overwhelmed or lose focus or ambition. I miss a lot of times, a lot of people, a lot of places. Especially around this time, when it’s been nearly a year since my college graduation and five years since high school graduation.

I think life is all about balance. “Everything in moderation.” We’re all searching for this golden ratio. How do we enjoy the moment while being mindful of our future?

I’m sitting here, trying to get the creative juices flowing, and I’ve fallen in love with Design is Mine. She finds such beautiful images, whether it’s fashion, interior design, graphic design, art. I’m into nearly everything she posts. Especially Etsy finds; she makes me forget my “get-out-of-debt NOW” plan and want to buy up everything on Etsy.

While looking at Design is Mine, I saw an image yet again with IKEA Urban chairs. These are the same chairs Yogurtland uses.

Since I’m hosting Easter Dinner at my house and I have no dinner table…I think I may break down and buy 4 of these chairs along with the IKEA Docksta table I’ve been wanting for awhile…

Thoughts?

I can’t wait to cook and gather with all my boys on Easter…Gabe, Jeff, Brent, and the ever elusive Mike. Maybe Drew will pop in as well. I’m so popular with the boys.

OOOH! Literally as I’m writing this, I received an email for “Tax-Free IKEA Weekend!” For those of you outside Los Angeles, our sales tax was just raised a full 1% yesterday. Our sales tax is now 9.25%! One of the highest in the nation. Sigh.

One of my sisters is going through a difficult time in her life.

At Starbucks this morning, I saw some little inspirational notecards. I decided to make some of my own and send them to my sister. Here is the first:

This post was inspired by Liz over at Cmd Shift Design.

I’ve been sitting on it for a few days now. Trying to think of what I did in February…It’s not until I went through my email that I could remember anything that went on. I wish that was because I was on some wild drug induced trip for 28 days straight, but I think overall February was slightly unmemorable. Here’s what I was able to gather:

  • Began discussing and writing a webseries show with my best friends from college
  • Spent a lot of time consulting and designing for the band Mike manages, Hyper Crush, as well as his two companies
  • Fell back in love with web design and discovered soooo many helpful design sites such as Noupe
  • Booked my airfare, hotel, and bought tickets for Bamboozle
  • Got a new client!
  • Made a yummy yummy Coconut Passionfruit Cake which I have neglected to write and post pictures about so far…

February should be my last snoozer month for awhile. By snoozer month, I pretty much worked, designed, slept, and hung out with friends. All very good things to do. But there are exciting events coming up:
+ I hope to sign another client (packaging!) this week.
+ Crossing my fingers to sign on to do a website for a restaurant this week also.
Looking forward to April:
+ Coachella.
+ My Birthday during Coachella weekend!
+ Mike’s coming to visit and we’re going to a wedding.
Looking forward to May:
+ Bamboozle (Third Eye Blind, No Doubt, Hyper Crush, Taking Back Sunday).
+ Kevin Devine at the Troubadour May 17!

Life is in full swing and spring is right around the corner. One of my favorites.

I’m not feeling well today. Last night, after going to IHOP’s Pancake Celebration (read: Free shortstack!) I started to get a sore throat and a headache. I went to bed around midnight, took quite awhile to fall asleep, only to wake up at 4:30a feeling terrible. I think I’ve come down with the flu. I feel exhausted and I slept (err attempted to sleep) for over 10 hours. I could use some of this right now (less the ham):

Mike invited me to be his date to a wedding at the end of April. That’s something to look forward to, especially since it will be over three months since I have seen him.

I’ve been feeling a little downtrodden lately, all this economic mumbojumbo, seeing more and more storefronts post FOR LEASE signs, and just generally having a bleak outlook. I’m in a funk :(

One thing I have been really into lately is web design and discovering design blogs. I’ve been discovering so many articles on “50 Best Portfolio Websites,” “10 Great ways to Find Freelance Clients,” “15 Free Programs Every Designer Should Use,” which is interesting and encouraging. Here’s a site to check out: The Design Cubicle
